Throughout the years, we see many trends come and go in fashion, interior design and even hairstyling. Every trend starts somewhere, and as the years pass they come back around, whether still at their original style or with a twist.
It’s no different in floral design. The flower arrangements we all gush over today have each been influenced throughout the years. In part 1 of 2 blogs on floral design, we’re looking at the European influences in modern day floral design;
The Renaissance is a period from the 14th to the 17th century and we see huge influence in our floral designs of today through the incorporation of fruits and vegetables. Homes would be decorated with fabric motifs and flowers alone, used in picture frames. Strong smelling flowers were most popular, including lotus, jasmine, rose and hyacinth. Arrangements would be adorned in urns, vases in a tall and lavish way.
